KOH SAMUI:
WHY THE WORLD'S EYES ARE ON THIS ISLAND RIGHT NOW

Koh Samui: Why the World's Eyes Are on This Island Right Now

There are beautiful islands, and then there are islands that the world keeps coming back to. Koh Samui is firmly in the second category — and the numbers, the awards, and the growing wave of international investment all tell the same story.

The best island in Asia-Pacific

Travel + Leisure — one of the most respected names in global travel — has just named Koh Samui the number one island in Asia-Pacific at its Luxury Awards 2026. For anyone who has spent time here, it comes as no surprise. The island has always offered something different: a pace of life, a standard of living, and a natural beauty that are genuinely hard to find elsewhere.

What makes this recognition meaningful is what it reflects beyond tourism. Koh Samui's airport ranked second in Asia-Pacific — just behind Singapore's Changi. Five of its resorts placed in the regional top ten. These are the markers of an island that works — beautifully and reliably — for the people who choose to live here, not just those passing through.

It follows a string of well-deserved accolades. Condé Nast Traveller named it the best island in Asia in 2024. Expedia put it on its global Island Hot List in 2025, calling it the world's best island for affordable luxury. The recognition keeps coming because the island keeps delivering.

The numbers tell the same story

Koh Samui's post-Covid recovery has been exceptional. By 2024, air arrivals had reached 2.78 million — up 21% on the previous year and above pre-pandemic levels. The first four months of 2025 added another 1.1 million arrivals, up 9% on the same period in 2024. Hotel occupancy rose 12% in 2024, and average daily room rates grew 9% — jumping a further 21% in April 2025 alone. This is an island in demand.

What this means for buyers

Koh Samui's appeal works on two levels. For those looking to live on the island, it's a place you'll actually want to spend time — palm-lined beaches, warm tropical climate year-round, easy living. For investors, it's an island with a track record of strong rental returns, now backed by fresh international recognition that's likely to keep demand climbing.

There are only so many villas being built in Koh Samui's best locations. As more people discover the island, those plots tend to sell out — and prices tend to rise.

Both future residents and investors have good reason to move with confidence — and to move now.
